LONDON STREET BASED PHOTOGRAPHER
Artist research
Gavin Hammond who is a London based photographer captured 'London in puddles' which is the name of one of his portfolios. In this he captures the reflection of London in puddles of water.
Part of this photographers work can be classed as documentary because he is capturing famous landmarks and editing them to look old as if he is documenting the old life of London but also can have another meaning that Gavin has taken the stereotypical idea that it is always raining in Britain, and turned it into a photographic art project. He has captured London's landmarks reflected in puddles and wet pavements – and successfully made a tourist out of millions of Londoners. Many of the photos Gavin has taken are similar to one another as the colours and lighting are all similar to ensure consistency in his photos. Most of the images are focused at the ground meaning we see many lines off the tiles in the photo which in a way separate the photo up with leading lines to allow the eyes to follow the lines down the photo. The lighting is purposely focused in the centre of the image where the majority of the subject is in the photo.
The colours are mainly consisted of greys, blacks, yellows and whites. Majority of the darker colours are found on the outside of the image to create a sort of border. The artist mainly makes the focus of the image in the middle of the photo and the rest of the outside empty to ensure the eyes are drawn to the middle. I think the artist is trying to capture a new side to London showing London is sill as beautiful even when the weather is bad and it looks grey it still maintains its beauty. I think the photographer purposely captured these images and wanted to do it because on his own website it stated he waited on the street for ages to capture the photos he called 'Was perfect for the project'

In this process once the image had been captured by light, I got a paintbrush and dipped it into the developer solution, and shook the developer onto the light sensitive photo paper where for around 20 seconds I waited for the picture to come through and quickly put it into the 'Stop' process part of the darkroom. Once the image had been captured onto the paper, it was placed into the fix for 5 minutes where i waited and was put into water for 10 minutes and left to dry. I tried to go for a paint splat effect as i thought this would be the most effective part and this image turned out just the way i wanted it to.

Here, i got a paintbrush and dipped it into the solution. Instead of throwing it onto the paper with the brush. I got the paintbrush and wiped only the middle of the paper so the image would appear in the centre and then let it drip, causing the sides to look very watery which in effect works well with the water reflection.
